Getting Out of the Chicken Rut

Food For Thought
As a follow up to my last post about food and art, I began thinking about creativity and how people, especially chefs, all over the world have come up with different ways to cook a particular type of meat. For instance, think about all the entrees that have been created from chicken. I, for one, only cook chicken a few ways. I usually bake it and serve it with rice and a side vegetable. This type of dinner gets old after awhile, and it made me think about the different areas in my life where I’ve gotten into a rut or haven’t been very creative.

To get out of this rut, I decided to visit my friend, Karyn, in Chicago this past week to re-energize and experience something new. That usually spurs my creative juices. Besides, a visit has been long overdue.

Food as Art

Painting of Cherries by Maria Palma
These are my thoughts about food for Blog Action Day 2011...

For many years now, artists have used food as the subject of their art. Nowadays, food has become the subject of many photographers masterpieces. I don't know about you, but I can log into Facebook on any given day, and there are at least 5 photos of food in my timeline.

There are people who criticize foodies for taking pictures of food, saying that it's a wasteful endeavor. There are so many people starving in the world. Why would we rub it in their faces? My answer to that is: If people stopped taking pictures of food, would that really end world hunger? Besides, people who can't afford to eat are probably not logged on to Facebook, Twitter, or browsing the internet.

San Diego Staycation: Bergie's Pub Review

Burger and Garlic Tator Tots
Living in San Diego for almost 20 years, I still have yet to experience everything that America's Finest City has to offer. This month we'll be doing a series of posts called "San Diego Staycation" which will feature places we've never been to before as well as seeing our favorite places from a different perspective. Our first stop: Bergie's Pub located At 2244 San Diego Avenue In Old Town San Diego. This review was written by guest blogger, Cory Russum...

I recently had the great pleasure of having a double cheeseburger and tater tot combo from Bergie's Pub . I very rarely eat hamburgers from traditional restaurants such as McDonald's, Jack In The Box etc., because I feel that the quality of the "ground beef" is very, very poor. I am in no way, shape, or form comparing those establishments to Bergie's Pub. I just want You The Reader to know where I stand as far as quality cuisine is concerned.
