Does Beyonce's "Bow Down" Inspire You?

I'm all for artists expressing themselves and telling their personal stories in their songs, but at the same time I feel that when you reach a certain level of fame and influence as Beyoncé has, you have an obligation to be an inspiration.

I don't know if it's Beyoncé's intention to be a role model, but she's been thrust into being one by our society - especially now that she's associated with Barack Obama. Whether she likes it or not, she is a role model and the things she does from now on will be scrutinized. That's just the life of being a celebrity in this world.

Celebrities of her stature will have haters, that's for sure, and who wouldn't want to put out a song that tells those haters, "Bitches, Bow Down." At the same time, though, I feel that Beyoncé has led a very blessed life, and isn't that revenge enough? Does she really need to put out a song that degrades her haters?

I haven't listened to the song (and don't plan to) but I did take a look at the lyrics. This new song comes off as if Beyoncé is "all supreme" and she's commanding the people "below her" to bow down to her. I don't care who you are, but I'm not bowing down to anybody. Period. We are all equal in this world regardless of wealth, position, class, or nation you come from. We are all kings and queens on this earth put here to make a difference, help each other, and fulfill our destinies.

That being said, Beyoncé has the right to sing about whatever she wants to, just like I have the right to express my opinion about her song. I just feel that music should inspire people and make them feel good.

Ok, I'll step off my soapbox for now...
