#ShopSmall on Small Business Saturday: Tips For Businesses

In the spirit of Thanksgiving and showing gratitude for all the business support that I have received throughout the years, I want to thank American Express for creating Small Business Saturday and acknowledging those of us who went after our dreams of becoming entrepreneurs.

When we think of this upcoming holiday weekend, we’re constantly reminded of Black Friday or Cyber Monday when all the big retail stores fight to get you to shop with them. However, between all that big box chaos is Small Business Saturday, a day in which I invite you to think about the small businesses in your local community or the online entrepreneurs *ahem* who also work hard to provide products and services suited to your needs.

As Georgia McIntyre pointed out in her article, Here’s Why Small Business Saturday Could Be the Best Day Ever, awareness of Small Business Saturday continues to grow every year. Even large corporations are coming together to promote shopping on this day.

As a small business this is your opportunity to shine and create a phenomenal experience for your customers so that they will remember you beyond this Saturday. If you’re a brick-and-mortar business, I recommend creating not only a warm, welcoming space to shop, but a visually exciting atmosphere that inspires people to post a pic or video to Instagram, Facebook, and other social media channels.

You can read tips on how to get ready for Small Business Saturday in Georgia McIntyre’s post. Also, here are more tips from Marcia Layton Turner on ways to boost sales using social media.
